Simply Being Me

Love me for what I am - for simply being ME!

New - Simply Being Me Sexual Survey - please download, fill in the form, save it and then email to: enquiries@fifemen.co.uk.

We all meet people who are different from us, being different is not wrong or something we should be afraid of. Being ourselves is very important and being able to live the life we choose is also very important.

This might mean we make choices that not everyone likes. But these are your choices and must be respected.

The "Simply Being Me" group are people with a learning disability who are also gay.

This means that they prefer to have sexual relationships with people of the same sex as them.

Some people in the group do not want a sexual relationship but do consider they are gay, and want to talk and socialise with other people who feel the same way.

Sex is often confusing and comes with words difficult to understand:-

Male, Female, Man, Woman, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and there are many more some which are not good words!

To help you and your key-worker to understand these words and what they can mean for someone with a learning disability, the "Simply Being Me" group has been set up.

The group has two volunteers who are gay people and are happy that others should know that they have made choices which have been good for them.

If you would like them to come and visit your day centre, to talk about themselves and choices they have made, either to a group or with your key worker, they are happy to do so. You might like to speak with these people in private, and this can be arranged.

The "Simply Being Me" group can also meet at other places, and talk about matters that interest gay people.

It is hoped by bringing people together we can respect each other and enjoy simply being ourselves!
